So here in the southern hemisphere, gone is winter and we have welcomed spring with open arms
and up in the northern hemisphere you have said goodbye to summer and hello to autumn This year has just flown by! Have you taken a moment to just reflect on what you have accomplished this year? what the world has accomplished this year? The Olympics, the Paralympics, break thoughs in science like the discovery of the Higgs particle (if im correct
) Take a moment and reflect. If you haven't achieved what you wanted to... there are still 4 months! Get cracking!

It gives me great pleasure to introduce our latest contest
The theme has been chosen according to the seasonal changes we have just undergone, so to be fair to both hemispheres, the theme will be spring AND autumn. you can interpret this however you want, be it through colours, what the season means to you, the changing environment etc...
The ThemeSPRING AND AUTUMN - What about the season inspires you. (interpretations open - as long as one of the seasons is clearly recognisable)
The deadlineThe deadline will be the 30th of September. This gives you just under 1 month, so make those entries BRILLIANT!

(we will accept all categories of photography, as long as they comply to DA's rules and regulations, don't have any form of violence, and in order to protect our younger viewers, no nudes will be accepted. In part or full.) Additional info Images taken from January the 1st 2012 up until 30th September will qualify for the contest.
In your description, please state that this is your entry for Stand-Out-Shots' competition and if possible, link to this journal.
Also in your description, please give your motivation why you chose the image and what about it inspires you (as per the theme).
You are allowed a MAXIMUM of 2 entries.
Any member of Stand-out-Shots is allowed to enter the competition.
Your images DO NOT need to have 30 faves or 300 views for the contest.
Judging How the judging will work: The judging will be conducted between the admin team of Stand-out-shots. They are not allowed to enter to prevent biased voting.
What we are looking for
In the submissions, we will be looking at the image itself, as well as its description. We will be looking at proficiency in the art of photography. (note this does not mean you have to have the latest equipment. We take into account the gear you have and look rather at the overall image. Your description of why the image inspires you is also as important. Because technically proficient photographs with no story behind them aren't very interesting. However add a captivating story and you've got a winner!

Submissions
I would just like to bring to every ones attention that recently there have been many, many incorrect submissions... Primarily into the feature folder... So everyone, Im appealing to you all to ensure that you have selected the correct folder and that your deviation has the required 30 favourites or 300 views MINIMUM.. PLEASE! It makes our jobs as moderators easier.
And remember, if your image does not meet our requirements, DO NOT DESPAIR! We have recently introduced the "Up and coming folder" whose submission guidelines are stated in the folder. But generally if you submit to this folder, your images SHOULD be accepted

I owe a big thank you to all the amazing admins who've stepped in in the recent past - @EMSpanglerPhotography, lucytherescuedcat (https://www.deviantart.com/lucytherescuedcat), Floreina-Arts (https://www.deviantart.com/floreina-arts), YoshaPhotography (https://www.deviantart.com/yoshaphotography) and Yuukon (https://www.deviantart.com/yuukon) - for helping me keep this group running.
Though I love this group (but most of all what it stood for, namely working alongside of friends - WindInTheCoffeeCup (https://www.deviantart.com/windinthecoffeecup), who has left DA - who had a clear vision for the group if not the time) I've been feeling more and more like I'm not the right person to run the group.
It's an elitist group, for photography that's outstanding and standing-out. The group is too big run and the decisions sometimes

You might have noticed it takes a while before your submissions go through; this is because the group is run by just 2 people currently and aside from running the group, we'd also like to enjoy real life ;)
This is why we're calling out for help: we could really use some new colleagues to help voting on submissions :D
If you're online a few times a week and could spare a bit of your time to vote on the stand-out-shots submitted to this group, and are interested in adminstering a group (there are also some perks involved in being part of a group's admin team :la:) send me or the group a note :dummy:

It's the third month of the new year already, and while in some places winter reign with a cold fist, in others spring is lurking just around the corner.
Which means it's a perfect time to get out your camera and enjoy that watery sunshine or winter landscape or - if you're on the other side of the equator - the turning of the leaves with the start of autumn.

At the beginning of the month, we introduced you to the new additions to the admin team, Floreina-Arts (https://www.deviantart.com/floreina-arts) and YoshaPhotography (https://www.deviantart.com/yoshaphotography).
Since they've come aboard, the backroom has been positively buzzing with activity - submissions are going through rapid-fire.
But that's not all:
Starting January 1, 2018 the group is going to be more active :dummy:
What does "more active" actually entail?
Aside from just accepting photography submissions, and sharing the irregular Photography Feature now and then, we will be hosting themes and challenges.
Keep your eyes primed for the first challenge that will be announced and star
